On a GS500 you kan drill new holes, for the pic-up plate. This is done to advance the 'preset' value, or the mechanical part of the preset/advance.
This moves the starting point from where the electronic circuit calculates the advance, regarding to the revs.
Something like that could be done on a savage too, I think.

Moving the cam-timing one notch??? You have to turn the crank by hand, to be shure the piston woun't hit a valve!!! Actually I wouldn't dare!!

I'm quite happy with 31 HP's!!! If you want it running like hell, by a sportster or even a V2!!??
